I appied for Jake and I, and our friends, Wes and Nicole to work at a firework stand this summer. We got the job. So since the 25th of June we have been working at the firework stand.
We opened officially for business June 26th and were open until the 4th of July. We didn't have a generator for nights so we had to close by dark, plus I still had to go home and make dinner for Jake for work. Jake would help me set up, except for a couple times, then go home and sleep and come back to help me close. We usually opened between 10 AM and Noon. Just depending when we got up and go ready. This stand was really exhausting. The boxes of fireworks are pretty heavy. This year wasn't very good for selling fireworks, so we don't know how much money we'll make. We do have to split the money between Wes and Nicole (they helped a couple days) and then a couple other people who helped out here and there.
We still have to open the firework stand for the 24th of July (opening from the 21st to the 24th).
We also moved on Monday, July 2nd, to our new place. They only downside to the new place is no washer or dryer and the dishwasher has to be hooked up to the sink to work. Jake was working at the Firework stand on Sunday when our landlord came by to ask why we weren't already moved. Apparently we were supposed to be out by the first which is went rent is due anyway. So I told our landlord we would be moved out by Tuesday at 8 AM. So I called my mom, quite upset and she said she would call back later. So later she called to inform me that She, my dad, and brother Spencer were on their way down to help. She also informed me my grandma and grandpa Arnold were coming down and would be to my house in a couple hours. We weren't able to get the keys until monday morning (my mom gave us
money to help pay rent, since Jake didn't get paid til Friday) so we
just packed and cleaned until we got the keys (of course sleeping Sunday
night). I was very grateful. Spencer helped at the firework stand on Monday while we cleaned and packed. We were delighted to have the place cleaned and everything moved out by 9:30 PM Monday night. What a relief. Now only the new place was a mess.
We started back up with the Firework Stand on July 20th. On July 21st, I was working by myself. Jake was at home trying to sleep and Nicole wasn't supposed to come for another half an hour when a huge thunderstorm hit and was flooding the tent. Jake came back, Nicole rushed over and we frantically were trying to get boxes off the ground. It turned out that there was a hole in the tent where the roof and walls come together so water was pouring into the tent all over the upper priced Ariel fireworks. Some of them got damaged, but more importantly all the boxes were at least a little if not a lot wet, so we used some plastic to put in the bottom of the boxes and put the fireworks in and rushed them to the container. On the 22nd it was just really humid, but the sky kept threatening rain-thank goodness it never came. On the 23rd it was just cloudy and humid. On the 24th We were unloading boxes and it started raining so we just put the fireworks on the table and put the boxes back in the container. It rained on and off all day long. On the 25th Jake, Wes, and I did inventory which was a little bit confusing because some products didn't come in their own box. We didn't finish, so I had to come back on the 26th and take down the tables. Phantom also called to inform me that we had to shrink wrap our own product before they would take it away, so we had to spend more money to do that when we thought the company would do it for us. I am so glad this adventure is over.
