PEOPLE ARE FREAKING OUT!!!!
THERE IS A GOOD CHANCE WE WILL ALL DIE!!!
THERE'S NO TOILET PAPER! The stores are so raided that people are fighting over toilet paper. Half of Facebook is people asking which stores might have some of that precious 2-ply. It's hit the whole world, but Utah found people really hoarding things (not just food). Water bottles, medical masks, medical gloves, hand sanitizer, Clorox bleach, these are all things that just seemed to disappear overnight from store shelves. Not to be left out Jake and I have spent about $1200 on groceries and other things so we'd have emergency supplies. That money also includes the regular groceries I buy, plus everything on top of that. Includes pet food and some arts and crafts and games to help keep the kids occupied. That way while we are on a two week quarantine we wouldn't need to leave the house for groceries.
Wednesday, March 11th, That evening Lizzy had a fever of 101/102 degrees when she went to bed. She woke up at 4 AM with a 103.7 degree fever. At 4 AM I made her get in the bathtub to try and cool off her fever some. She got back in bed after medication was given and slept til about 8 AM. By the time 3 PM came around she had a fever of 104.2 degrees. She had already been given a second bath to try and reduce the fever. She would do the fever cycle the nurse talked about which is she would be lethargic and not hungry or thirsty while the temp was high, but after medication and the fever coming down a little she would be active-not for long, but for a little bit. At 4PM I was worried, and told Jake to come home. William was off the rails and I had scheduled an appointment for Lizzy at the pediatricians office for 5:20 PM-in their evening clinic. We were at the clinic for 2 hours and 15 minutes. They tested her for strep throat, flu, and a UTI. She was so dehydrated though that I couldn't get her to pee. So we had her drink a quarter of a water bottle and she immediately had to go pee. It came back positive for blood in the urine, so we got antibiotics and got her started on them. The next morning, Tuesday the 12th, she woke up with a 104.7 degree fever. I made her get in the bath at 6 AM to reduce her fever. And rotating ibuprofen and Tylenol helped. They called me Monday the 16th to tell me the urine culture came back and she did in fact NOT have a UTI and to stop the antibiotics. I went to the Dr office with Lizzy later that day because she was still having high fevers. But she was acting totally normal. They ended up taking lung x-rays to make sure she didn't have an pneumonia and she didn't. So we waited for the fever to go away, and if it didn't to go back in the next Monday. Lucky us Tuesday came and her fever was gone. (Jake is 85% convinced that she had a mild (just fever, no other symptoms) version of Covid-19.)
Thursday, March 12th, UT Governor held a press conference and said no gatherings of over 100 people and social distancing was beginning to be implemented to SLOW the virus down enough that our healthcare system had a chance to save lives rather than be overrun. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (LDS) "With global health concerns leading the Church to temporarily suspend worship services worldwide" and "The public will not be admitted to the Conference Center in downtown Salt Lake City for the Church’s April 2020 general conference."
Friday, March 13th, 2020
The governor of UT shut down all schools in the state for two weeks. The kids still have to do their school work online. So Tuesday, March 17th I went to the school and picked up Sydney's Chromebook so she can do her school work. I also picked up the school work for a couple of the kids I take to school in the mornings.
Monday and Tuesday, March 16th and 17th, it was nice outside so the kids played outside for many hours. But we got Jake set up in our bedroom with a work station so he could work from home. And Alyssa tried to finish editing a wedding and get that sent off.
Wednesday, March 18th, at 7:10 AM a 5.7 earthquake shook Jake and I awake from a dead sleep. The creaking! The shaking! The sound! It was so crazy. It felt like it shook the whole house for a couple minutes (ok maybe 30
seconds). After the shaking was done we jumped up and I ran to check on
the girls and Jake went to Williams room. William was looking around
confused saying "what happened, what happened." He had woken up in the
night wanting some food and ended up playing for a while, calling me
every once in a while. From what I could piece together in my tired
brain he was up for an hour maybe and hour and half. And Sydney was
looking around confused. She said she was ok, but scared. Lizzy had
woken up during the night, her light was off and her bed was wet so I
had to help her switch her bed around, so when the earthquake happened
she slept straight through it.
William after the earthquake excitement, I noticed William being not "normal" and really red in the face. At about 9:30 AM I took his temp and he had a 101.5 degree fever.
We felt many aftershocks shaking the house. And then later in the
afternoon around 3 pm we had a 4.6 earthquake hit and shake the house
pretty good for maybe ten seconds. The kids were all talking about it.
Not scared. Just checking out everything, and watching my chandelier
above my front door swing.
But luckily nothing broke the whole day. And we were fortunate not to have lost power at all during the day.
We found out that our Wyze camera videoed the earthquake and it lasted in our house for 15 seconds.
We found out Jake's office will be closed for a while due to some structural damage.
(And as a side note, The Angel Moroni statue atop the
Salt Lake Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints lost
its trumpet.)
To relax before bedtime, we watched a couple episodes of Avatar: The Last Airbender, and then played a round of MarioKart. Took Williams temp after he woke up from a nap (that he went and just laid in bed and fell asleep all on his own, which tells you a lot, because getting that boy to nap anywhere but the car is next to impossible) was 103.5 degrees. So I am not gonna freak out because so far he is following in the path Lizzy just exited (besides complaining of stomach pain).
Thursday, March 19th,
William fever in the 102 range most of the day but by Friday he was totally over whatever he had.
