We bought a twin sized bed for Sydney on March 17th after Jake got off work. Sydney had climbed out of bed once (well more like jumped-from the sound of it) and since then we decided it was time to switch to a toddler bed. Well we didn't have a toddler bed and i didn't want to spend the money on one and have to switch to a twin bed in a couple years so we just upgraded her to the twin.
That night we set it up, so by the time she actually got put to bed was close to 11 o clock. She screamed and cried and got out of bed at least ten times. But it only took her about 35 minutes to fall asleep in the bed. We put a baby gate out in front of her door since she can open doors now to keep her from "escaping."
The next night there was some crying and getting out of bed but it still only took about a half hour of putting her back in bed before she fell asleep. We did implement a bed time routine where we get ready for bed and read a bed time story while she is under the covers and that seems to help.
She has only had the bed for 6 days and the last couple of days (21st and 22nd) she lays in bed (you can hear her) and then without her getting out of bed (as far as I know) she is asleep within a half hour.
This wasn't nearly as hard as I thought it would be. I honestly hope my next child is just as easy because lets be honest I had it pretty easy with her. No real fits. Just some crying-like a little bit of panicked crying because it was a new bed. So don't come to me for advice about getting your child to sleep in a big bed because I will have none.
