Grandpa Arnold's Funeral

April 22, 2014 Kay Stanley Arnold, age 78, passed away peacefully while surrounded by his loving family.
Kay was born January 31, 1936 and lived his entire life in South Jordan, Utah.
He is survived by his loving wife, Mary Spanos Arnold, Gary K. Arnold (Kaye), Jeannette West, Jeff Delmont Arnold (Wendi), Shawn J. Arnold, Darin Vee Arnold, Dan Kay Arnold(Teresa), Mindy Kaye Holt, Travis Lee Arnold (Andrea), Brad David Arnold (Rinda), Michael Brandon Arnold (Barbi), Gavin Ray Arnold, and 28 living grandchildren and15 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his brothers David Arnold (Janet), and Tom Arnold (Judy). Kay is preceded in death by his father Stanley Kay Arnold, his mother Annetta Newbold Arnold, his first wife Raphaella Nadine Roper Arnold, his younger brother, Terry Lee Arnold, and his grandson Andrew John Arnold.
He was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and has held many callings throughout his life, including serving on the High Council, as Bishop, Elder's Quorum President and many others. He recently returned from serving a mission with his wife, Mary in the San Fernando Valley Mission.
He was a graduate of Jordan High School and in his young adult years played basketball and softball on various church leagues and in his later years developed an unstoppable hook shot. He was enlisted in the Army for a few years and came home and married Raphaella Nadine Roper and started his family. After she passed away he married Mary Spanos on June 27, 1968 in the Salt Lake Temple and between the two of them they have eleven children. He loved music and singing and sang in a barbershop quartet for many years. He was an avid fisherman throughout his entire life and fished on many rivers and streams including the annual family Currant Creek trip each year. He officiated both high school and city recreational basketball games until he was 75 years old. He loved bowling and his high average was 175. He also loved to read about history and he was a great with numbers and always won when playing either Yahtzee or Mastermind.
Kay retired from Smith's Food and Drug where he worked as the meat manager for many years. After retirement he continued to work as a spray specialist in the landscaping industry.
Funeral Services will be held Monday, April 28 at 11 a.m. in the LDS River Ridge First Ward building located at 10124 South 1300 West, South Jordan, Utah. There will be a viewing on Sunday from 7-9 p.m. and on Monday at 9:45 -10:45 a.m. at the LDS River Ridge First Ward building. Interment will be at the South Jordan Cemetery located at 10630 South 1055 West, South Jordan, Utah.
