The day we picked up our cat Jake said "let be irresponsible and go get a cat" and that made me laugh because it's an oxymoron.
We got the cat on Sunday, June 24th, 2018. We stopped off at the Humane Society of Utah in Murray. We looked through all the cats. They probably had at least 100 cats. The kids loved petting the cats, although it made me nervous because not every cat was friendly. We even looked at the kittens. But they had a sale going on where we didn't have to pay for any animal that had stayed for over 60 days (or something like that). Anyway, we almost got an orange tabby cat, it was ok. I didn't love it. And as Jake and I were in the hallway debating, one of the workers came up and asked if she could be of any help. So we told her we were looking for a friendly cat, that could be around dogs. And she took us to the one area we never looked in. It was for overweight cats. And there we found "Lupin" whose name we later changed to Rocket (Like the Racoon in Guardian of the Galaxy). He was chill, good with the kids and all their touching and grabbing. So we took him home. It took Banjo a couple days before he was fine, but it took Amber a month of guarded contact with the cat before she was ok. That first night we kept him locked in the playroom. That way he could have a big area to explore, his cat litter box was close, and he was safe from the dogs. He is an indoor/outdoor cat. And he loves to eat. We tried putting him on a diet. And then the kids would give him extra food in there attempt to be helpful with the cat. And eventually he started biting me or Jake to get us to feed him.
It took a long time for him and William to get on good terms. It seemed like those first few months William was constantly getting scratched. Rocket is really a good cat. We are very happy with our choice.
